Four unconventional ways to stay #foreveryoung

“Age is just a number.” “You’re only as old as you feel.”

The above sayings are just two of many that are often associated with getting older. During our time as a mature lifestyle village, we’ve come to form our own opinions on the matter. We’ve watched our residents grow bolder with each passing year, truly changing the common perception of age.

There’s no secret to ageing gracefully and there’s definitely no magic potion either. What you will find, however, is that there are several things you can do to make these golden years the best ones of your life. How can one stay younger for longer? Here are a few pointers that our residents swear by.

1. Get a repeat prescription for positivity
To live a happy and healthy life, we need to surround ourselves with positive thoughts and people. When we do this, we’re far more likely to stay positive ourselves which happens to carry a host of health benefits. Studies have shown that people who are cheerful are less likely to fall ill. They also live an average of 7.5 years longer than those who are negative. If you find yourself experiencing feelings of anxiety or depression, talk to someone that you trust. You are not alone and there are many who experience the same struggles.

2. Keep it moving
Not only does regular exercise decrease your chances of heart disease, obesity, arthritis and dementia, but it also helps you retain your mental sharpness. Studies show that those who walk briskly a few times a week are more mobile and less likely to experience bone disorders and depression. Exercising socially also keeps you accountable whilst allowing you to socialise and stay fit.

3. Don’t lose touch
Those who stay connected to friends and loved ones are also more likely to live longer. By staying in touch with those close to you, you can retain your sense of purpose and stay sociable with fellow retirees. At Renishaw Hills, we offer a host of activities and facilities that provide the perfect opportunity to get together with other residents and even visitors.

4. Eat as if your life depends on it
We’re all aware that our diets can have a major impact on our health. By following healthy eating habits, you can lower your risk of disorders like heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. You’ll also feel better when you avoid sugary, processed foods. With a spring in your step and a sparkle in your eye, how could you not feel younger?

You can’t stop the clock but you can enjoy your time to the fullest

It’s our goal to help every resident enjoy the summer of their lives. It’s why we take care of every possible element so that they can retire well and live the holiday.
